Vegemite is a nutritious and versatile Australian food. In fact, it's one of the world's richest sources of B group vitamins.

B vitamins assist in converting carbohydrate, protein and fat in food into much needed energy for the body. In addition, B vitamins are important for proper functioning of the nervous system, muscle and brain. Some B vitamins such as B6 and folate are required for production of red blood cells in the body, whereas niacin helps maintain healthy skin and a digestive tract.

Where on earth do you get Vegemite in Vancouver? I've been looking for it on the supermarket shelves, and haven't been able to find any. Heeelp!!! I'm going through vegemite withdrawal.

I'm a Kiwi bloke living in Austin, Texas and so far I haven't seen any vegemite/marmite in stores here. I did find "Weetabix" at HEB, a Canadain brand, but my only gripe with it is that there's not enough weetbix in the box ! Where do you live?

"Laura on Friday, June 06, 2003:

Jill from Minnesota (midwestern USA) on November 29, 2005:
Hey, I heard about vegemite from a cartoon... Something about a kiwi bird too. :) I thought it was really funny, and everyone on the cartoon loved it. Well, yesterday someone showed me a funny quote with the word "vegemite" in it, and perplexed, i looked it up. I rediscovered vegemite!

People ask what it is when i tell them about this aussie thing... I tell them its like we have peanut butter, they have vegemite. I want to buy some but the nearest store that i can hope to find it is an hour away... So maybe buy it online? A few dollars to buy a jar... and then twenty dollars shipping... But I'm determined to taste this "thing" !

But, supposedly, vegemite is not like peanut butter... For a peanut butter sandwich you put three or four, okay five, big spoonfuls of peanut butter on your bread and just eat it. Or you take a jar of peanut butter and eat if by the spoonful, plain, just because it is so great. And it's as popular as chocolate and peanuts in various candies.

I heard that too much vegemite is yucky. Well, how much is too much? How many spoonfuls, I mean... And do you drink it with milk?
