Secure Connection VEGEMITE Jar

Vegemite is a nutritious and versatile Australian food. In fact, it's one of the world's richest sources of B group vitamins.

B vitamins assist in converting carbohydrate, protein and fat in food into much needed energy for the body. In addition, B vitamins are important for proper functioning of the nervous system, muscle and brain. Some B vitamins such as B6 and folate are required for production of red blood cells in the body, whereas niacin helps maintain healthy skin and a digestive tract.

Vegemite remains one of Australia's most popular foods, with more than 22 million jars sold each year.

VEGEMITE Jar Reviews

allison from Vancouver on June 16, 2006:
theres a store on 4th st in Kitslano called something like the Australian/Indonesian store that sells vegemite.

I haven't had the opportunity to access the 'Great Australian Vegemite Posting Board' before yesterday, and read it with great amusement. I think there may not be any other food product on this earth to rival the controversy that Australian Vegemite engenders. Yayyyyy!
What amused me the greatest was the posting that follows :Alex on Friday, November 18, 2005:
"A few years ago, I bottled five gallons (19 liters) of home-brew beer that I had accidentally put too much yeast in. Nobody would drink it but me and I developed a taste for it. Then I discovered Vegemite. Great stuff... tastes just like bad home-brew."
As I tell the Yanks here, Vegemite orginated many years ago as the by product of left overs from the bottom of beer barrels, a very high source of Vitamin B, and touted by the Australian government in a very rigorous ad. campaign during the Depression for severely, undernourished kids. Stands to reason. Rosy cheeks?!
My husband is American, but he loves Vegemite. Eats it every day. A Vegemite and cheese sanger for his mid morning snack. I've heard Vegemite described here as 'tasting like Diesel Fuel.' Obviously it didn't have enough Corn Syrup, sugar, and "Can I Up Your Fries With That?"
It's not Peanut Butter, it's not Jam (jelly)and you sure don't use it as such. It's Vegemite. A little bit goes a long way. Go easy with it!
As to the person who asked about Marmite? That's about the only thing the British introduced to Australia that didn't take over the environment, and ruin it.
Okay, I need to take a Nice Pill and lie down!
Vegemite is neat. As a True Blue Aussie, when you're so far away from home, it's the one thing that sustains you.
That, and Cherry Ripes.
Take care.
Corinne from Vancouver on May 29, 2006:
Guys, I found out that Kraft Canada has nothing to do with Vegemite. Vegemite is imported from Kraft Australia. I called the importers for B.C. and they said they no longer import it. They didn't think anyone else was importing it now. So it looks like you will have to order over the internet. How sad is that!!!!
Angela from Calgary on May 28, 2006:
It has disappeared from Calgary too!!! Let us know what you find out Corrine.
Corinne from Vancouver on May 27, 2006:
Vegemite has disappeared off the shelves in Vancouver. Safeway used to carry it, but suddenly they don't. Same with Save-On Foods. I guess I need to check with a manager to find out the story.
