    • Billy Tea - Australia's favorite strong bush cuppa, in bags or leaf.

The term Billy Tea refers to tea brewed in a billy can, that is a small can, tin or pot used on a campfire for boiling water/tea etc. So the term "billy up to the fire" basically means, "put the kettle on".

      History of Tea

The legend goes something like this. Around 2700 BC, the Chinese Emperor Shen Nung, a renowned herbalist, was meditating under a tree while he was waiting for his billy to boil.

A couple of leaves from a nearby shrub blew into the water without him noticing. When he tasted the resulting brew, he was really amazed by the delightful new taste, and the beverage of tea was born.

Billy Tea Reviews

Christopher from East Falmouth, East Falmouth, USA on October 04, 2014:
Mates, I just want to say that there is no finer tea than Billy. Grew up on it, got through school on it, got through 17 shearing seasons on it, wouldn't take no copy. You Yanks are used to rough cut orange pekoe - which is basically Liptons - Billy is a blend and it will knock your socks off with its full rich flavor. They don't pay me to say that but I'll take the job :)

Been drinking Billy Tea since 2001 after visiting Sydney. Great taste hot or cold! Thanks

I have been drinking Billy Tea since 1972. It brews up nice and strong and stands up to the addition of ice to make a wonderful glass of iced tea. It's the only tea I use.
